E-PortFolio 6

No more songs and music. No more glamorous designs of buildings and products. No more literature and history in the world. How can we survive in this kind of "cold" world? That is impossible. Nowadays, people have been much involved in the challenges of improving the quality of life with advanced technology. Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education are likely to be encouraged to the youth but not language arts anymore. These kinds of notions can really cause a lot of drawbacks in future. Undoubtedly, people today are seemed to be only devoting themselves to the numbers and letters instead of languages. Our mother tongue languages, which include vernacular languages and dialects, are not even applied. Without correcting the grammar mistakes and mispronunciation, the expression of idea by the voice is gradually becoming vague and as a result communication barrier will be occurred. When time goes on, the rate of illiteracy will increase rapidly. Also, development of philology and literature would be affected. Youth today are discouraged from spending too much time on poetry. Poems such as the 300 Tang and Song Chinese poems will no longer be learnt in the world today. Besides, involving too much in STEM will influence the development of art to a certain extent. When people bury themselves into the books, they cannot value the beauty of art and they lost the capability of judging works of art. In fact, the mind of creation and innovation is off utmost important in creating the characteristic of a person and it should not be neglected. A Roman author once said, "Art is born of the observation and investigation of nature" (Cicero, n.d.) . Undeniably, art is actually one of the elements in our high-tech life today. In conclusion, That is truth that introducing STEM education to people can better improve our communities and provide people a high-tech environment but to a limited extent. We should not forfeit the right to learn the language art in our stage of life. When we feel stress in chasing the technology, just spare some time to udnerstand the essence of language arts, and unwind ourselves.

According to those two articles, I strongly believe that the variety of the engineering profession is the most important thing in these days and future, too. It has come through several variation throughout the centuries.

In the world today, sustainability technology is the norm so that it can provide a better life for human being. To keep pace with the technology, the engineering profession has to be diverse into various type of specialisation. For an example, mechanical engineering has roughly diverse into mechatronic, aerospace and oil and gas engineering. To meet human need, engineering today is not only involving the matter of manufacture and building but it is also emcompassing the service sector, banking, finance, medicine, computing as well. Undoubtedly, the scope of engineering has been broadened and its variety will be continued in future.

Due to the globalisation challenges , engineering has become highly recommended today due to its vastness of job opportunity. Resources, energy, water, poverty, health problem, high-tech information and environmental disaster will not longer be small issues but they are the prime challenges for all the engineers in the world. Exactly, engineers need to solve their tasks by foresighting the future with creativity.

Nowadays, the engineers can communicate with other engineers worldwide in all forms and share their knowledge conveniently. The engineers will cooperate with others profession to make use of the knowledge. For instances, architecture will need engineers to construct a building to prevent collapse while drug researcher will require engineers to invent a new drug by applying chemistry as well. As a result, the world is more connected to face those challenges together and this give rise to the expansion of engineers' world as well.

In conclusion, the contribution of engineering will not be ignored and it will continue expand into several kinds of specialisation in the future. Due to its flexibility, engineers will be recruited by those large companies in a large demand in the future. So, I agree that the expansion of this profession will really bring benefits to human, to the rich and poor.
